Núria Guiu has created Spiritual Boyfriends in parallel with the research and realization of a work of visual anthropology; is a photographic archive on the iconography of yoga and its historical construction. This exhibition consists mostly of images that roam the virtual world. They are “poor images” *, pixelated, compressed, sometimes out of print, others copied and re-appropriated by digital newspapers, personal blocks of users, schools or commercial and merchandising companies about yoga, its accessories and the body as culture of therapy, health, sports, fashion, spirituality or merchandise.
This photographic research has been inspired by theoretical references such as the book by the anthropologist Joseph S. Alter, Yoga in Modern India, or the book Yoga in the Modern World, by Mark Singleton and Jean Byrne, among others. The exhibition was presented at the hall of the Mercat de les Flors between the 4th and 13th of November 2021. It consists of 13 posters A0 size, they are available to be presented together with the performance for the festivals or theaters who wish to expand beyond the performance and give a wider context to the audience.
